AutoPartDeals.com is an auto part wholesaler which is located in Sugar Land, Texas. It is an affiliate of one of the largest surplus/closeout automotive parts suppliers in the United States with over one million square feet of merchandise. The inventory originates from major U.S. automotive parts manufacturers and distributors who generate excess inventory through obsolescence, stock-lifts, over production, discontinued packaging, excess inventory, and bankruptcies. Their business model is based on significant cost savings on all types of automotive parts when compared to traditional on-line or national retail chains.
The Challenge
Client came to Softway Solutions to find a custom software solution for their warehouse which included a website development and ability to manage inventory. A Warehouse Management System that would allow not only a solution for picking parts but also data entry and ability to automate the existing customer orders. Softway Solutions had a unique challenge to work with catalog data for auto parts that exceeded 32 million. Our job was to allow users to search its enormous database and have it optimized for speed. Users can select their car and it will pull all the parts in the inventory. There would be a wholesale section which allows wholesaler to see all part in the inventory.
The Solution
E-commerce Website Development
We designed and developed an E-commerce website where a customer can purchase auto parts of different manufactures online using the credit card Or Paypal system. Advance search functionalities were provided on the website which allowed visitors/users to filter with year, make, model, manufacture, part numbers and categories. This helped them to search parts online easily. Administrator section was developed to keep record of the orders, customer information, product details, shipping information and also it has the ability to add edit and manage product details and more…
Windows Application Development:
There were some scenarios where customers would like to place the order through phone instead of going through the long checkout process. So, we developed a windows based WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) Application through which the client was able to create users with limited access to the users. Users have the ability to create customers, search the parts, give discount on products and place the order for customers.
Webservices Programming:
Softway Solutions developed web services which allowed automation of orders from one of AutoPartDeals.com’s client. This allowed their client to send it orders directly through the website and would integrate to the pick and pack system. Web Services also eliminated the need for inventory upload and orders being placed when quantity was depleted.

HoldMyMemories.com is a photo sharing site which allows you to uniquely organize your memories. Unlike other photo sharing site this site allows you to organize your memories in chapter which include photos videos and also allows you to create your family’s website. The site allows you to share specific pics and albums to others on or off the site. The site works in conjunction with photo studios to allow upload and easy order of the prints. User interface friendliness was another challenge which needed to be overcome since a site with similar functionalities as HoldMyMemories.com needed to be simple yet advance.

To accomplish the task it was decided to develop this project on Ruby on Rails platform, which is a emerging web technology in the market. The Exxon Mobil Corporation, or ExxonMobil, is an oil and gas corporation. World's largest publicly traded company when measured by either revenue or market capitalization. The company has 38 oil refineries in 21 countries constituting a combined daily refining capacity of 6.3 million barrels*.
Exxon Mobil Exploration is part of the upstream sector of oil and gas which include the searching for and the recovery and production of crude oil and natural gas. The upstream sector includes the searching for potential underground or underwater oil and gas fields, drilling of exploratory wells, and subsequently operating the wells that recover and bring the crude oil and/or raw natural gas to the surface.
The Challenge:
ExxonMobil came to us with a time challenge. We needed to develop 2 separate presentations for an annual meeting. These presentation were confidential in nature and we had to illustrated details about specific projects using topographical data as well as cultural and technical data to accomplish the visual presentation. We also needed to include voiceovers and video interviews of the personals which were to included on these presentation. Each presentation would be 5 to 8 mins long and we had less than 2 months to do them from start to finish.
The Solution:
Softway Solutions was up to the challenge and we worked alongside the ExxonMobil personal to acquire data, understand requirement and technical details so we can in turn produce a flash presentation that is not only visually appealing but was technically accurate. Along with the expert action script and flash developers we were able to provide both presentation on time and completed the project with very minimal incidences. We even had time to do a retake of the voiceovers. Both presentation “stole the show” at the annual meet.

Nabors International wanted to convert all their printed Rig Management System Manuals into a digital collection which could be used as supplement of the printed counterparts. Softway Solutions was given the challenge of designing an interactive application that allows the user to not only simulate pull a book but also allow searching through the manuals. There would need to be developed without installing any new software on the computers due to strict restriction but still allow multiple languages and searching.
The Solution:
Softway Solutions assessed the systems and decided to develop the application in flash. It was Multilanguage Interactive CD ROM application with more than 5000 documents embedded in 5 different languages. One of the challenges we faced were to organize the documents in a manner that allowed quick and logical access. We also had difficulties with the Arabic script as it goes from right to left which caused alignment and displaying problems. In spite of all this RMS turned out to be one of the most successful project. Organizing of the documents was handled by means of using XML files. For security issues and reducing the size of the documents, some of the documents were converted to flash paper. The meticulous calculations were made to make sure that the extensive parsing of the XML files did not effect the performance of the software, as all the contents were dynamically generated from XML files.
