In our Internet Marketing Strategy post we mentioned using “content management” through the use of a blog to help website rankings. So in this post I will give you a mini course called “Blogging 101.”
What are Blogs and what are they used for?
Blogs are tools with rich content and precise, relevant keywords that allow for prospective customers, users or readers to easily find information they are searching for. A blog platform provides space in the World Wide Web for the user to upload text, images, videos or music. Once you have set up a blog in a blog platform, such as WordPress or Tumblr, then you can write blog posts. A blog post can be written information, pictures, video or audio pertaining to a specific topic. Think about this like a magazine. Each blog is like its own magazine and each blog post is like an article in a magazine.
Blogs are an outlet commonly used to elaborate on business offerings; comment on news; provide social media updates and inform about social responsibility and case study information. Blog articles contain a broad spectrum of keywords related to the purpose of the blog. Then, you are able to cast a super large net of keywords that allow you to be found by people searching for those keywords. The larger the net, the easier it is to be found.
Let’s get started
• First, you have to choose a blog platform. The platform makes blogging easier and less focused on the background technical code. WordPress, Blogger and Tumblr are a few popular platforms.
• Second, choose a design template for your blog. This is the same as deciding how you want your blog to be seen by your audience. Do you want your blog to be simple, modern, cutting edge, formal, professional, etc.? Popular blog platforms provide various templates to choose from.
• Third, plan out your strategy. For example: Who should blog? How often do we post? What kind of content do we post? Where will the information come from? These are all good key questions to consider when planning your strategy.
Blog Management
What does blog management mean? Managing a blog entails scheduling of posts, optimizing each post to get higher search engine rankings and responding to comments left on your post.
Remember, measure your work!
Measure your work by analyzing which blog post(s) have the highest number of call-to-action responses. A call-to-action is having someone respond or act in the manner you suggested. For example, a call-to-action will instruct someone to sign up for a newsletter, click through a link or fill out a contact form. This is how you convert a visitor into a business prospect.
To be successful, continuous blogging with relevant information is necessary. Relevant information can be industry trends, information provided by industry gurus or any knowledge the blogger has to share.
